Blue Dog Bakery -  Consumer, Buyout, Search Fund Sponsor, Founder Liquidity
Coastal Community Bank -  Financial Services, Growth Financing
Montlake believed that turmoil in the community banking industry would create growth opportunities as the market recovered. In line with this thesis, Montlake evaluated dozens of regional institutions, ultimately co-leading a minority growth equity investment in Coastal Community Bank and joining the company’s board of directors. Since Montlake’s investment, Coastal has grown profitability, built out its lending team, launched a new SBA lending program and expanded its geographic footprint.  Coastal completed its NASDAQ IPO in 2018 and trades as CCB.
Fresca Mexican Foods  -  Consumer Product, Search Fund, Buyout
Fresca Mexican Foods makes tortilla products for sale primarily through restaurant chains. Montlake helped a previously successful portfolio company executive form a Search Fund to identify a company he could operate. Montlake assisted with structuring the buyout alongside senior, mezzanine and equity investors. The Search Fund executive assumed the role of CEO of the company following the transaction. Montlake serves on the board of directors assisting with development of new channels, partners and financing. Montlake exited Fresca successfully in 2015.
HerbPharm  -  Consumer Product, Buyout,  Founder Liquidity
HerbPharm is a producer of natural herbal supplements. Montlake was attracted to the company’s brand, leading market position and general growth in the natural medicinal category. We co-led an investment in HerbPharm alongside other partners and the company’s founders. The management team was made executive partners to provide additional leadership and received equity incentives to grow the business. Montlake exited HerbPharm successfully in 2017.
SOG Specialty Knives & Tools  -  Consumer Product, Buyout,  Shareholder Liquidity
SOG is a leading designer and marketer of outdoor and tactical knives and tools. Montlake was attracted to the company’s differentiated brand, innovative products, and growth prospects. Montlake co-led an investment alongside co-investors and the company’s founder to buyout the existing majority shareholder. In conjunction with the transaction, Montlake assisted in arranging senior debt financing and structuring equity incentives for the company’s management team. Post closing, Montlake has helped the team build out its finance and marketing capabilities.
Blue Dog is a Seattle-based all natural pet treat company. Montlake partnered with the company's founders and the CEO to recapitalize the company to achieve its strong growth potential.  The founders remain active alongside Montlake and others as shareholders and board members.  Montlake's post-transaction leadership has included recruiting new team members, assisting with introductions to key distribution channels and helping build the brand. Montlake exited Blue Dog successfully in 2016.
AA Asphalting -  Construction Services, Buyout,  Succession Planning, Founder Liquidity
AA Asphalting is a Sumner, Washington based utility contractor. Montlake partnered with the CEO/Founder to recapitalize the business to achieve its strong growth potential.  The founder remains active alongside Montlake, the majority investor.  Montlake's leadership has included strategic planning, recruiting new executives and expanding the logistics network and footprint both organically and through acquisition.  The company is specifically structured with a long term investment horizon.
