Connecting with Montlake Capital
Our referral network is our primary source of deal flow. Whether it is through our advisors, current portfolio executives, limited partners, co-investors or other friends of the firm, your best chance to connect with Montlake is through a referral.
Submit a Business Plan
When submitting a business plan, executive summary, or PowerPoint deck we encourage you to include at least the following information: business description and value proposition, revenue model with 12-month operating plan and 36 month projections, market opportunity and competitive environment, bios of key team members and board of directors/advisors.
In-Person Meeting
If it appears that Montlake may be a good partner to help grow your business, we will schedule a meeting to get to know you and your team. This would be the first of many meetings with Montlake, and will include one or more members of our investment team and advisors. The primary purpose of our first meeting is to not only get a better sense of the investment opportunity and the vision of your team, but also for you to gauge whether or not Montlake is the right partner to help you accomplish your objectives.
Montlake Team Meeting
If after our first meeting together there seems to be an appropriate fit we will request more detailed information and then schedule a meeting with our broader partnership. This is your chance to meet our entire team and tell your story.
Due Diligence
If we both decide to move ahead with a potential deal we complete the remaining high level due diligence with the goal of getting to a signed letter of intent or term sheet. This is followed by a rigorous due diligence process that generally takes no less than 60 days to complete. In addition to detailed financial and legal due diligence, you can expect Montlake to make numerous reference calls regarding management and customers.
Partnership
Once due diligence and documentation is complete and we have made our investment we will focus on doing whatever we can to help management achieve the vision of the company. Whether it be through value-added introductions, strategic planning, or tactical assistance you will have access to all the resources of our firm. We encourage management teams to be proactive in their requests for assistance. Montlake places a high degree of value on effective collaboration and communication, management’s ability to work with the board of directors, and an open, honest assessment of the company’s successes and challenges.
